St. Dominic - Founder of the Order of Preachers

Dominican Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: Order of Preachers OP

We are Dominican, Missionary Sisters, women of various nationalities and cultures. Aware of our dignity and giftedness. We create life-giving participative communities, where we feel at home.

We are energized by contemplation and study of the word of God.

We engage in a common search for the truth about God, ourselves and the world.

Our Motto: VERITAS—TRUTH

We follow in the footsteps of St Dominic, who challenged the heresies of his time as we preach the truth, and take a stand against unjust structures and all that cripples life.

EVANGELIZATION is our charism

We preach by our life and service and are a prophetic presence, witnessing to and proclaiming the GOOD NEWS of God’s love, of justice and of reconciliation, compassion and hope.

We preach as we teach, nurse, look after the orphaned, handicapped and elderly.

We preach also from the pulpit and through print and electronic media.

Through diverse apostolates, and in collaboration with others, we commit ourselves to be of service to and share the concerns of the people, especially those at risk; the YOUTH, women and children. Together we create an environment which empowers all to find meaning, healing and wholeness of life.

Vows

Dominic was a religious, he committed himself to a rule lived in community with his brothers and took traditional vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. We do the same today.

Our vow of poverty is our commitment of sharing everything with our sisters and not treating anything as our own private property.

Chastity is our commitment to a life of celibacy instead of marriage. We live together in community and try to give our life and care to God’s people.

Obedience is our commitment to God, to one another and to the whole Dominican Order. We promise to do whatever the congregation asks of us within the limits of our rule and constitutions.

Dominican Sisters are in

Zimbabwe in the Dioceses of Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare

Zambia in the Diocese of Lusaka, Ndola and Kasama

Kenya in Thika

Europe in Germany, England and Italy

South America in Colombia.

My life is a Call

A CALL to be there for others, to give my love, to help others grow-and through this to become the unique person I  am meant to be.

“This is what Yahweh asks of you, only this

 to act justly,

 to love tenderly,

  • to walk humbly with your God.”

                                                        Micah 6:8

Who is calling me?

The fact that I am born is a sign that I am wanted and needed by god for

a purpose.

He who called me into being is calling me every moment of life to respond

to His love.

“I knew you before you were formed within your mother’s womb; before you were born I sanctified you and appointed you as my witness to the world.”

                                                           Jeremiah 1

Call and answer

A CALL is an invitation to respond. God’s call to me is an invitation to allow him to use my life in order to make this world a better place for place.

In calling, God also indicates the way in which I can best serve his people. My hopes and fears, my expectations of life, the way I feel about things, my specific gifts and skills are all such indications.

How do we know that God is CALLING us?

God normally uses very ordinary ways to tell us what he wants us to do. It may be through

  a person we meet

  a quiet moment of prayer

  something we read

that He may make us aware of his call.

EVERY ONE IS CALLED. YOU TOO ARE CALLED. Think about who is calling you and to what you are being called. Pray for enlightenment.

If you feel you wish to make contact with us to learn more about our life, pay us a visit, write to us, phone us through the above vocation promoter.
