THE DIOCESAN PRIESTS

The Diocesan priest is ordained by his Bishop to serve the local church and the community. He does not belong to any religious Order or Congregation. According to the needs of the Diocese he takes up any service given to him by the Bishop He is a “Pastor of the flock” and a minister of the Gospel, united with Christ in prayer and especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. At his ordination he promises to obey his Bishop and to lead a spiritual and celibate life. He is supported spiritually and financially in his service by the Bishop and the parish he serves.

The Diocesan priests in every Diocese form a Diocesan Clergy Association and also belong to the interdiocesan “Zimbabwe Association of Diocesan Clergy (ZADC). All Priests – Diocesan and Religious are members of the “National Council of Priests” (NCOP).
